Seeing our short-term therapy patients meet their recovery goals never gets old!

And we love to highlight these individuals as much as possible to celebrate our patients and inspire anyone who may be considering inpatient or outpatient rehabilitation for themselves or a loved one.

If you are wondering if short-term rehabilitation would benefit you and your family, take a look at the following success stories!

Mrs. Uzzle at Life Care Center of La Center

Mrs. Uzzle admitted to Life Care Center of La Center with a new onset of atrial fibrillation following chest discomfort and dyspnea. She had just undergone pacemaker placement. She had also experienced a fall resulting in toe fracture.

Upon admission, Mrs. Uzzle required moderate assistance with bed mobility, standing, and transferring. She could walk only ten feet with supervision.

In addition, her recall and reasoning were mildly impaired, and she needed help with activities of daily living.

Therapists determined that she would need physical and occupational therapy five days a week and speech therapy three days a week. Physical therapy targeted her issues with bed mobility, standing, transfers, walking, lower extremity strength, and balance.

Occupational therapy focused on strengthening her upper extremities and balance to restore her ability to perform daily activities. In speech therapy, she worked on improving her recall, awareness of safety, and reasoning.

After completing her program, Mrs. Uzzle discharged home with 24/7 care. Her bed mobility was at an independent level, and she required supervision for standing and transfers. She was able to walk up to ninety feet with a walker. With some setup from caregivers, she was able to dress herself and perform hygiene maintenance. She also had functional improvements in her recall and reasoning.

Mrs. Uzzle was very pleased with her progress and was confident she would be able to maintain the independence she gained during her program at Life Care Center of La Center!
