Life Care Centers of America's Whatever it Takes Champions program honors associates who go beyond their job descriptions in serving residents, families, and fellow associates. Here are four of the inspiring stories from our recent winners.
These associates are certainly Champions of Care!
Ryan’s sharp eye and quick action may have saved a short-term therapy patient’s life! During the patient’s stay at the facility, Ryan recognized troubling symptoms in her and called an ambulance without hesitation.
It turned out that the patient was suffering from a major stroke and required surgery to remove a blood clot from her brain. Doctors performed a prompt and successful surgery, which helped the patient recover from the stroke without further complications.
Here’s what the patient’s daughter had to say about Ryan and his thorough, attentive, and life-saving care:
“The quick action and knowledge of the employee saved my mother's life and allowed her to recover quickly from the major stroke. We are so grateful for the care that she has been receiving.”
Angelina touches the hearts and souls of her residents. Along with providing them exceptional care, she brings them an abundance of humor, friendship, and joy. Because of this, several residents decided to nominate her for the Whatever It Takes award.
One resident wrote: “This staff member is a fantastic CNA! She is sensitive, kind, funny, always keeps you laughing and joking. The sunshine in my day.”
Another resident wrote: “She is a great employee. She always goes above and beyond to help me.”
And one resident even has a picture of Angelina hanging on the wall of their room. They keep the picture there because seeing her face brings them joy and happiness.
Annunciata had a patient preparing to come off a long-term feeding tube. Because this patient hadn’t eaten a solid meal in a long time, Annunciata wanted to celebrate the occasion in a memorable way. So, she ordered pizzas and threw a pizza party to honor the patient’s recovery milestone! Annunciata made sure that the long-awaited transition was extra special for the patient.
William recently noticed there were no Bible studies for residents at the facility, so he asked for permission to lead one himself. When the Bible study proved to be a success, he decided to start a regular Sunday service.
During these services, William learned that one resident loved to play the piano. So, he asked if she would like to play for the service every Sunday. The resident lit up at the offer. She now practices piano every day and looks forward to playing on Sundays.
